Put a real consequence behind your fitness goal

Financial accountability adds a real consequence to a goal that might otherwise be easy to postpone. With Mavlo, you choose a fitness target and the maximum a verified shortfall may cost. Mavlo reads the result from your connected source, so completion does not depend on self-reporting, and an eligible incomplete result is reviewed before settlement.

Clear before commitment

Membership and shortfall amounts are different payments.

Store membership is an auto-renewing Apple subscription. Web membership is billed by Stripe through RevenueCat using the same four terms, while the current UK TestFlight beta uses a temporary server-granted entitlement. StoreKit or the web checkout displays the applicable price and term before confirmation.

A separate card saved with Stripe supports the maximum shortfall amount chosen for a commitment. Card setup takes no payment, and Mavlo does not store the full card number.

A selected maximum is not automatically the amount due.

Distance, moving-time, Zone 2, steps and sleep commitments use the exact verified proportional shortfall and round once at the end. A target completed at 80% therefore proposes 20% of the selected maximum, subject to all evidence, membership and review rules.

A one-off Strava Challenge is binary: one eligible activity must meet its full target inside the rolling 24-hour window. A chargeable miss uses the selected Challenge amount, while an unverifiable window closes without a fee.

  • The selected non-Challenge amount has a £5-equivalent real-user floor.
  • A Challenge uses a £1-equivalent real-user floor.
  • The weekly maximum is capped; the app and signed terms remain the amount authority.

What research can—and cannot—tell us

Trials have found that some carefully designed financial incentives and voluntary commitment contracts can increase activity during an intervention. Results vary by design and population, participation in self-funded contracts can be low, and effects can weaken when incentives stop.

None of the cited studies tests Mavlo’s exact mechanism of a member-selected card charge after a verified shortfall. The responsible claim is that consequences can help some people make a goal harder to ignore, not that money guarantees consistency or health improvement.

A verified incomplete result is a proposal, not an instant charge.

Every eligible incomplete result receives a 24-hour review showing the result, source, remaining requirement, amount and deadline. Settlement also remains subject to the product’s approval controls.

A dispute immediately suspends settlement. Current Mavlo policy resolves every submitted dispute in the member’s favour and refunds any amount already captured for that disputed result.

Financial accountability is not right for everyone.

Do not choose an amount that would create financial stress, and do not use a target that is unsafe or disconnected from your present ability. Mavlo is for adults aged 18 or over and is not a medical, coaching, gambling or investment service.

If supportive coaching, a training plan or non-financial encouragement would suit you better, choose that mechanism. The consequence should serve the commitment—not overpower it.

Who it is for

Accountability for people who want the terms in plain sight.

  • Adults who know what to do but keep restarting
  • People who already record activity with Strava, Apple Health or Oura
  • Members who want a concrete weekly target and visible deadline
  • People comfortable choosing a financial consequence for a verified shortfall

Limits worth knowing

Mavlo verifies the commitment you set. It does not replace judgement.

  • Mavlo is not medical advice and does not choose a safe target for you.
  • Only eligible, correctly synced provider evidence can verify progress.
  • A membership must be active at the evaluation instant for an incomplete result to be chargeable.
  • Uncertain or incomplete evidence produces grace, not a charge.

Trust and privacy

A result should be clear before money moves.

Complete

Reliable evidence met the target. No shortfall charge.

Incomplete

Complete evidence shows the verified shortfall. Review comes first.

Grace

Evidence is missing or uncertain. No charge while Mavlo cannot know.

  • You choose the target and maximum shortfall amount.
  • A dispute pauses settlement immediately.
  • Current launch policy resolves every submitted dispute in the member’s favour.
  • Mavlo does not sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Questions, answered

The details people usually ask first.

Does missing one workout mean I pay the full amount?

Not necessarily. Normal weekly commitments evaluate the complete target window and continuous targets use the exact verified proportional shortfall. A single missed session may be irrelevant if the full target is still met.

Can a provider failure create a fee?

Uncertain, incomplete or missing evidence does not establish a chargeable miss and should receive grace. Eligible incomplete outcomes also receive review and a dispute path.

Is financial accountability proven to work for everyone?

No. Research results vary, some effects fade after incentives end, and no study establishes that Mavlo’s exact mechanism guarantees a result.
