Terms of Service
Effective 9 August 2026
These terms govern your use of the Mavlo application and website (mavlo.io), operated by Mavlo Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales and based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom ("Mavlo", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using Mavlo, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What Mavlo is
Mavlo is a fitness accountability service. You voluntarily create fitness commitments for recorded running, cycling, swimming, steps, sleep, or recovery targets and choose an amount that may be charged only when Mavlo authoritatively verifies a shortfall. Results are verified automatically through Strava, Apple Health, or Oura. If you complete your commitment, nothing is charged. If a shortfall is verified, the applicable amount is shown for review before any settlement as a missed-commitment fee.
Missed-commitment fees are platform fees payable to Mavlo. They are not external-cause payments or speculative financial products, and Mavlo does not route them to any external organisation.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Mavlo, because the service involves financial transactions. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or over, that the information you provide is accurate, and that you are authorised to use the payment card you save.
3. How commitments and missed-commitment fees work
- You choose a supported verification source, a target, and a commitment amount. For real users, a non-Challenge commitment has a minimum amount equivalent to £5 and a one-off Challenge has a minimum amount equivalent to £1. Test users may use the configured token floor shown in their commitment terms. Each commitment is created and charged in the currency shown when you create it; that currency is fixed for the commitment and amounts are never converted between currencies.
- To create a commitment you must save a valid payment card with Stripe, our payment processor. Saving the card does not itself take a payment. By activating a commitment, you authorise Mavlo to settle the applicable reviewed missed-commitment fee to that card, up to the maximum amount you selected.
- Standard weekly commitments run in consecutive seven-day periods anchored to their start and evaluated in the timezone recorded at the time of your pledge. Oura recovery commitments evaluate once at their chosen deadline, and Challenges evaluate once after their rolling 24-hour window.
- Every evaluation requires an active Mavlo membership at that evaluation instant. An evaluation outside active membership creates no missed-commitment fee.
- If your verified activity meets the target, nothing is charged. If Mavlo authoritatively verifies a shortfall, the missed-commitment fee is calculated from that shortfall — never more than the amount you chose. Distance, moving-time, Zone 2, step, sleep, and recovery commitments use the verified proportional shortfall where applicable.
- Verification is automatic, not self-reported. Manually entered Strava activities do not count toward Strava commitments.
- Every verified incomplete result receives a 24-hour review window before settlement. After that window, an undisputed fee can settle only after an authenticated Mavlo operator approves the server-calculated amount. A dispute suspends settlement. If verification is missing, partial, disconnected, or otherwise uncertain, Mavlo does not treat that uncertainty as a chargeable miss.
- If a charge fails, we retry it automatically. Your account may be suspended from creating new commitments until outstanding fees are resolved.
- Challenges (one-shot 24-hour commitments): a Strava Challenge charges the full selected amount only when Mavlo confirms the complete 24-hour window and the target was not met. If the window cannot be verified — for example because of a failed or partial sync or a disconnected account — it closes with no fee. A chargeable Challenge enters the same review window and dispute path as a weekly commitment before settlement.
4. Refunds on missed-commitment fees
A missed-commitment fee is only settled after a fair review window. If you dispute the proposed fee during that window, settlement is paused and no charge is taken. Every dispute is resolved in the member's favour: a disputed fee is not retained, and any amount captured before the dispute was processed is refunded in full.
For a fee that is not disputed, Mavlo shows the amount, the reason, the date, and the related commitment before settlement, and provides a receipt for any amount that is ultimately captured.
5. Disputes
If you want to question a proposed or captured fee — for example, because you completed the activity but a verification source failed, returned wrong data, or Mavlo mis-matched it — you can raise a dispute in the app or by emailing hello@mavlo.io within 14 days. A dispute immediately pauses settlement, and every dispute is resolved in your favour: no disputed fee is charged or retained. If an amount was already captured, it is refunded in full.
6. Membership
The web app offers auto-renewing monthly, three-month, six-month and yearly Mavlo Pro subscriptions through Stripe and RevenueCat at the price, currency and term displayed before confirmation. The entitlement is account-bound and follows the same Mavlo account on web and iPhone. Invited users of the current UK TestFlight beta instead receive a temporary server-granted membership entitlement and do not need to purchase.
For the public Store product, Mavlo membership is an auto-renewable subscription billed through Apple In-App Purchase at the term and price displayed in the app before purchase. StoreKit and the App Store product information are the authority for the displayed price, currency, billing period, and available plans; any price described elsewhere is illustrative until confirmed in the purchase screen. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it in your App Store account at least 24 hours before the end of the current term; your access continues until that term ends. Subscription payments are handled by Apple, including any refund request available under Apple's policies.
Web subscriptions renew at the interval shown in the Stripe checkout until cancelled through the Membership management link. Deleting a Mavlo account does not itself cancel an Apple or Stripe subscription, so cancel renewal before deletion if you do not want the subscription to continue.
7. Ending a commitment
You can cancel an active commitment directly in the Mavlo app at any time; you do not need to give a reason or contact us. Cancellation stops future evaluations, reviews, and missed-commitment fees for that commitment. Any period already reviewed, under review, or charged keeps its existing outcome and remains subject to the review and dispute rules in Sections 3–5. A cancelled commitment cannot be restarted, but you can create a new commitment in the app.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Manipulate or falsify verification data (for example, fabricated activities, GPS spoofing, or having someone else check in as you)
- Provide false account information or use someone else's payment card
- Share your account, or access another person's account
- Interfere with, reverse engineer, or attempt to circumvent the service or its verification systems
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, attempt to manipulate verification, or use the service abusively or fraudulently. You may stop using Mavlo and delete your account at any time in the app; deletion is unconditional, cancels live commitments and any settlement still pending, and removes your personal data. We retain only what the law and safety require after deletion: financial transaction records required for accounting and dispute handling and — solely where an amount is genuinely outstanding because it remains unpaid or was charged back — a payment-card fingerprint fraud signal from our payment processor. An amount already captured or genuinely outstanding before suspension or termination remains subject to the review and dispute rights in Sections 4–5; account deletion never causes a pending settlement to proceed.
10. Health disclaimer
Mavlo is an accountability tool, not a medical or coaching service. Nothing in the app is medical advice. You are responsible for ensuring the commitments you set are safe for you; consult a doctor before starting a new exercise programme if you have any health concerns.
11. Liability
The service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for provider system outages, delays in payment processing by Stripe, inaccurate data supplied by third-party sources (your remedy for a resulting wrong charge is the dispute process in Section 5), or indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amounts you have paid to Mavlo in the 12 months before your claim.
Strava is an independent third-party provider. Strava does not sponsor or endorse Mavlo, is not responsible for Mavlo, and gives no warranty about Mavlo. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Strava is excluded from liability for consequential, special, punitive or indirect loss arising from your use of Mavlo.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date, and we will notify you of material changes in the app or by email. Material changes to fees or charging do not apply to commitments already running until they end.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you keep any mandatory consumer protections of your home nation.
